Community -- Campbell, Missouri

Campbell has been known as the Peach Capital of Missouri for many years and the quality of the fruit produced here is the finest in the world. Commercial peach orchards in Missouri are concentrated in extreme Southeast Missouri. The three thousand acres of peach orchards begin within the Campbell City limits and almost surround the town. Approximately two hundred thousand trees produce more than one million bushels of fruit annually, bringing in a gross income of six to eight Million dollars.

Campbell is primarily an agricultural community, surrounded by flat land on the East, South and West, and rolling hills to the North. Crops are diversified, with soybeans, peaches, cotton, peas, wheat and vegetables being considered the principal crops.

Campbell School District

The Campbell R-2 Schools are fully accredited under the Missouri School Improvement Program by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The curriculum provides multi-cultural opportunities district wide. The district's goal is academic for all students in the Campbell School district. The school's program is supported by the state's "Show Me Standards." Campbell students participate in the Missouri Mastery Achievement Test program and score at a state average.
The teachers at Campbell have an average teaching experience of 14 years. The percentage of teachers with a Master's Degree or higher is 34.38. Fifty-two percent of parents attend parent teacher conferences and ninety-two families served in Parents as Teachers (PAT). Approximately 12.1 percent of students are served by special education programs.
Nineteen percent of students are enrolled in gifted or enrichment classes. Approximately 1.5 percent are enrolled in advanced placement programs. In 1997-97, 30 percent of high school students took the ACT, compared to 50 percent in 1996-97.
Average daily attendance for 1997-98 was 654. The average rate of attendance is 93.7 percent and the average dropout rate is 9.25 percent.
Campbell Reorganized School District is rated AA by the state and the modern multi-unit plant is situated on one campus. There is also a Head Start Center for pre-kindergarten children.
Currently, a new school building is being built on the same school property. The new building is expected to be occupied in the 2003-2004 school year.

Nutrition and Activity Center

The Daisy Morris Nutrition and Activity Center is located at 110 South Ash Street, and provides meals to shut-ins Monday through Friday. Volunteers from the center deliver meals to homebound and needy. The nutrition center serves as a hub for senior citizen activity, and sponsors free blood sugar testing and cholesterol screenings each month. Blood pressure and hearing testing is also offered.

Transit Service

The City operates a transit service for the seniors of Campbell which is available to transport them anywhere within the city limits free of charge.

Campbell Public Library

The Campbell Library has a long and vast history. The library has sponsored numerous events for area residents throughout the years. One of the most popular of these events is summer "story time." Book clubs are established and children come to the library for story hour.
This activity encourages youngsters in the area to improve their reading skills. The library also has information on the history of the Peach Festival, now known as Missouri Peach Fair.
The library is located at 104 South Ash Street and is open Monday through Saturday from 1 to 5 pm.

Parks and Recreation

Jim Morris - Walter McCutchen Park Campbell's recreational activities surround the Jim Morris - Walker McCutchen Park, which is city owned and located just one block from the downtown business district. The eighteen acre park boasts over 100 large oak trees and contains three baseball and softball diamonds, new tennis courts, playground equipment, grandstand area and picnic area, as well as three restroom facilities. This park is home to the Missouri Peach Fair held each August.
There are various fishing spots within a reasonable driving distance from Campbell, including Lake Wappapello, Duck Creek and Mingo Wildlife Refuge in Missouri and Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee.
Deer and wild turkey hunting seasons also attract hunters from all over the United States to Missouri each year.

Local Industry

The City of Campbell owns an 80 acre Industrial Site on the edge of town, located adjacent to highway and railroad. A perfect place for industry whether large or small.
